Hands-On Mission

Hands-On Mission

The Mission Outreach Team invites you to some scheduled hands-on, short-term mission opportunities!

Mission Barn
Teams of all ages from Ingomar Church will participate in ramp building and installation for low-income people who are physically challenged. If you are not a builder, but would like to be involved, we will have another team that will check the flood buckets and other emergency kits to verify that they have all items included and packed correctly. Kit verification is appropriate for people of all ages. The dates reserved for our teams to go to the Mission Barn this summer are: Weds, August 10, Sat, August 13.
Please note: There is a three-year-old in need of a ramp before September so they can get out to go to their special needs preschool. We need teams of at least 4 people on one or both of these days.
Please RSVP your attendance at least by the Sunday prior to the event.
On mission days, we will meet at the church at 8am and plan to return by 4 pm.

Visiting with Seniors at Metowers
Metowers is a low-income senior apartment complex in Avalon. The residents there have very little family and are often lonely. We have scheduled dates on which we will provide games, activities, and even some food for approximately 35-50 residents for about two hours. People who sign up to go on these mission trips will help decide the activity for that day and the time when it will begin.
This mission opportunity is appropriate for all age groups. Please RSVP to Jean Dobay through IConnect to indicate that you will be participating at least one week before each date.

Online English Conversation Partners
UMVIM invites you to engage in a new type of mission journey: become an English-language conversation partner with a student or teacher at one of the many Methodist schools around the world.
Born from a conversation with Global Ministries missionaries working in education (and language instruction in particular), the need for conversation partners for English students and their teachers became apparent. With more and more people using Zoom and other conferencing software, we decided to explore this new type of missional engagement.

At this phase of project development, we are needing to gauge interest among potential volunteers. If this may be something for you, please fill out a volunteer survey. Once the program starts you can then decide if you are able to participate or not. Ideally, volunteers would be available at least 30 minutes per week, have reliable internet, and have a computer or tablet with camera, microphone, and speakers. No previous education or ESL experience is required, just a call to help students and teachers develop their language skills!

For more information, please email Karen Distefano. Visit the interest survey here.
