Serving in the church

Serving in the church

Every person has been gifted by God. Are you using your gifts to build God’s kingdom through the church? A church is more than a building and the leaders that work in it. A church – Ingomar Church – is a place where people find God and their lives are changed! When we serve at church, we contribute to something bigger than ourselves. We actively minister to others through our service. And in the process, we are better for it! What is your passion? What are your skills? How might they intersect in serving others through Ingomar Church?

Welcome Center Team

Welcome team members joyfully and eagerly look for and engage with any visitors, and give them a welcome bag if they are 1st time attenders. Ask for their names & email Erin Toohey with any information so that she may follow up. Team members try to personally connect and ask if they filled out a connect card. Time commitment for this position is about 10 minutes directly following each service.

Greeters

Our Greeters stand at the front doors and open the doors for guests & members. They are cheerful and welcoming and speak to everyone as they enter.  If people look “new,” greeters engage with them and assist them if they have nursery needs or want to know about our available Children’s programs. An additional responsiblity is to let them know that we have coffee available and encourage them to wear or make a name tag. Time commitment is 25 minutes prior to the start of worship.

Ushers

The Ushers collate and pass out the Orders of Worship & Connect Cards to our guests & members. They assist any elderly or those with special needs to their seats. They light the altar candles. The Ushers coordinate the offerings & usher for Communion. They record attendance and recruit help when needed.  After the service they gather any loose papers and recycle unused connect cards, ensuring that the pews are left neat and free from debris. Time commitment for Ushering is 30 minutes prior to Worship and 10 minutes after service.

Sunday Morning Hospitality

Our Coffee Bar helpers brew coffee and set out the cups/napkin/sugars/teas. One time a month they will help put out the snacks for Social Time. After service they clean up the coffee bar. The time commitment to set up the coffee bar is 10-15 minutes. For Traditional Worship we have the coffee brewed by 8:10am, for Contemporary, we have coffee brewed by 10:30am. Refreshment set up & break down, takes 15 minutes also. Coffee bar breakdown, takes 10-15 minutes following the 10am & 11am services.

Communion Team

Our Communion Team is comprised of Communion stewards who help serve the elements the 1st Sunday of the month and the other members that help with the setup and cleanup of the elements. The time commitment for the set up and clean up is about 20 minutes. To serve on the Welcome Team, as a Greeter or Usher, on the Hospitality Team or Communion Team, click here to email Erin Toohey today!

Nursery

1-2 Sundays/month, one service per Sunday We offer a nursery service at the 8:30, 10:00, and 11:00 service for infants and toddlers six weeks of age to three years old. Volunteers would be responsible for assisting the nursery worker in maintaining safety and welfare of all children.

Kid’s Place

1 Sunday/month Kid’s Place is a program offered for children ages 4 years old through 2nd grade at the 8:30 and 11:00 services. Children leave part way through the service and return at the end of the service or before communion. These lessons are simple, developmentally appropriate and provided to volunteers ahead of time so that they are familiar with what will be taught. Volunteers may serve at the service of their choosing.

Grow

Volunteers can serve as a small group leader or a game leader. We follow a curriculum through Stuff You Can Use. All curriculum/lessons are prepared ahead of time and provided to volunteers before that Sunday. All materials and any required supplies are provided and prepared. If you are someone who wants to strengthen connection between members of the congregation, serving in this area could be for you! Time Commitment – approximately 1 hour per week according to your schedule To learn more about Discipleship Serving opportunities, contact Pastor Cyndi: [email protected]

Lead a small group study (short-term)

Our main resource is found on Amplify Media, which provides videos and other teaching aids. Time Commitment – approximately 1.5-2 hours per week according to your schedule

Lead a small group study (long-term)

If you would like to lead a small group that also builds relationships, a long-term group may be for you. We make every attempt to have at least two leaders in charge of each group so that in the case of illness or vacation, the group can still meet. Our main resource is found on Amplify Media, which provides videos and other teaching aids. Time Commitment – approximately 1.5-2 hours per week

Homebound Check-in

Our Wellness Team keeps track of our homebound people as well as checking in with our members who are over the age of 80. These servant leaders provide a vital link between our pastors and staff with those who are unable to be present in person any longer. They communicate with the office when someone on our over 80 list has a change in health status, if someone on our homebound list would like to receive communion, and any other pertinent information. Time Commitment – approximately 1 hour per month on your own schedule.

Coordinate Senior Lunch and Learn Events

Three times a year, we plan to host an educational lunch for our seasoned saints. We would love to have someone to coordinate speakers and plan for the event. Time Commitment – approximately 10 hours, three times per year

Teach an art or recreation class or group

In an effort to increase fellowship opportunities, we would like to offer some groups around a particular interest area. We have a lot of people in the congregation who love outdoor activities, so offering anything from a neighborhood walking group to specific North Park activities would be appropriate for increasing wellness in our congregation. We know that art expression can be very healing and calming for many people. If you have expertise in this area, you may choose what kind of art expression you would like to teach. Time Commitment – this depends on your own scheduling

Monthly wellness checks between services

When Ingomar Church had a “Wellness” staff position, monthly blood pressure checks were available between services and at various events. As we no longer have that staff position, we would like to have a team of volunteers who would provide this service at least several times per year. Time Commitment – approximately 1 hour per month

Visitation Team

Would you like to accompany one of the pastors on a visit with one of our homebound individuals? This serving opportunity is for someone who is passionate about reaching outside the church walls in mission and ministry.
