United Women in Faith

United Women in Faith at Ingomar Church
The International United Methodist Women have rebranded themselves as United Women in Faith. Under the leadership of the Missions Committee, United Women in Faith has come to Ingomar Church to provide opportunities to serve in hands-on mission. While the mission opportunity is organized and directed by United Women in Faith, families are welcome to participate, as well as women from outside the church who want to work together to make a difference in the world.

Metowers Visitation Mission Opportunity
Our first mission opportunity is visiting with residents of Metowers, a low-income, senior citizen high-rise in Avalon. Many residents do not have any family. This is a great opportunity to bring your kids with you to participate in this mission. Upcoming dates include:

  • August 17 at 1:30pm – Ice Cream Social
  • September 10
  • October 13
  • November 7
  • December 23

Some of the other visits may include craft activities or sing-a-longs.

Disaster Relief Bucket Project
The next activity provided by United Women in Faith will be collecting and assembling disaster buckets that are used when natural disasters occur, such as floods and tornados. These buckets are shipped where they are needed and will include items that help with cleanup. We will begin collecting items for the buckets immediately and continue throughout the summer. Everyone is encouraged to donate items. Collection bins will be placed at the back of each worship area.

In September, we will place items on tables in the back of each worship area so that individuals and families can participate in assembling the kits. Alternatively, if you or your family cannot be present to participate in assembly, you may bring completed buckets to the church to be added to those we will be taking to the Eastbrook Mission Barn for storage. Here are the items that are needed:

  • Five-gallon buckets with resealable lids – free from residue but can have advertisements on the outside
  • 32-36 oz. bottle of liquid laundry detergent
  • 16-40 oz. bottle of liquid concentrate household cleaner – no spray cleaners
  • 16-34 oz. bottle dish soap
  • 4-8 oz. pump spray air freshener
  • 6-14 oz. pump spray insect repellent with lid (pack of 12 wipes also acceptable)
  • Scrub brushes
  • Re-useable cleaning wipes – no terrycloth, microfiber or paper towels
  • Scouring pads
  • Clothespins
  • 50-100 ft. clothesline (cotton or plastic)
  • 24 roll of Heavy-duty trash backs (33-45 gal.)
  • N-95 particulate respirator dust masks (1-3 mm thickness)
  • Kitchen gloves
  • Work gloves
